    if I check fluid with it running its pertty low thats how it was when I started if its not running and hot its full, if its running its low so if i fill it hot and running its a lot fuller than when I started and it has never leaked, I think filling it hot and running might be overfilling it. So is checking it while running the right way to do it?

    Subaru got very greedy over the years, the newer they're, the worse they're. The boxer design is dumb, the ej25 was bored from the ej20 casting, super thin cylinders, etc. 🤦 After 2010 things got worse, electric e-brake and no more limited slip differentials non turbo models (that means 2wd one in the front one in the back). The CVTs have very high failure rates and i don't think you can get a manual transmission anymore in any of them. I've owned 96, 98, 03, 05, 08, and last and very least the 2012 6mt outback with open differentials on the front and back. 😐 They used to make me smile when I would pull 4wd trucks out of mud mine went through, but now their biggest selling point is a complete scam.

    It’s sad but yes Subarus are overrated garbage. The engines, wheel bearings and over heating cvt transmissions are awful. And dont get me started on the 05-09 Legacy GT turbos and the crappy 5 speed automatics that fail-I owned two of them and did all the maintenance via the dealer- doesn’t matter still failed. Subaru never again.

    Sadly very accurate. I owned a 97 Legacy, 2004 Legacy, 2007 Outback, 2008 Outback, 2008 STi, 2014 STi, 2013 BRZ, 2018 BRZ, and a few others. They are great cars to drive. But the longevity of the engines is pathetic. It doesn't matter how much you baby them, you have like a 50% chance of blowing a head gasket by 150k miles.

    Fast forward to 2023, and I bought a Forester Wilderness in January, it has 6,000 miles on it, and it has had the check engine light on three times. I also have the rear tailgate randomly opening. Apparently, the head gaskets are fixed, but there is a whole load of new problems. I went from loving to loathing this car in the span of six months.

    Can't disagree. Subaru sells to folks that drive under 10,000 miles a year so that the cars can be 7-8 years old before problems pop up. I've commuted 20,000 miles a year for 20 years and Subaru is by far the worst performing vehicle I've had. And that's from a guy that commuted in a 2000 Echo. The Echo is still running and my 2013 Crosstrek has sat in my driveway for 2 years. Valve spring problems, transmission valve body, bearings CV joints, AC compressor, alternator........all stuff that's still original in my other cars at the same mileage were done in under 120,000 miles in a Subaru. I can't believe how many people brag about Subaru. It's gotta be the granola types with a canoe tied to the roof that drive em 10 miles a day to their nearest Whole Foods.

    They fix a head gasket issues a long time ago. If you blow a head gasket 130,000 miles I would say that you didn't change your coolant enough. I had the same exact car in blue and sold for $3,000 all I had to do was change the valve cover gaskets and that was at 247,000 miles

      @@TheJines123 thats why my 2008 failed? What other car manufacturer makes hundreds of thousands of a product WITHOUT fixing a major flaw?

    • @TheJines123
      @TheJines123 Рік тому

      @vwbuge1 yeah. I bought a 2012 STI off of somebody that only change the coolant three times in 150,000 miles and the coolant had started creating a chemical reaction called electrolysis. When that happened to eats away at the gasket. That happens more often than people realize. I would say that early EJ's were horrible for head gasket failure because they didn't use a multi-layer gasket. But use a single layer gasket and it just wasn't durable enough. You also have to understand that these engines are aluminum and when you don't let them warm up they expand and contract at faster rates than iron so that could also scrub the gaskets as well. And that goes for any car as well. Now as for never fixing the issues.there are many companies that do this. Go look at Chrysler and their oil cooler failures on the 3.6 pentastar. Or the Nissan timing chain guides failing early. I mean I can keep going. Ford and GM are known for horrible timing chain failures and transmission issues. That's all been going on for a very long time. All Brands have issues nothing is perfect. The term bulletproof is a term used by ignorant people I know nothing about cars. If you don't take care of any car it's going to blow up. It's going to have head gasket failure it's going to have a lot of issues. I'm not saying that you didn't take care of your car but I will tell you Subarus require a very proactive owner. If you can do things when the owner's manual tells you to do it on time that you will never have a problem out of these cars. I have had 12 Subarus and I've only had one head gasket failure and that was on my 2012 STI. I know what it's like to go through and put a ton of money in the car and then get nothing out of it in return. But realistically something was done incorrectly. I am and owner of an automotive repair business. A lot of times we get people to come in wanting to buy a certain Subaru and I go through what they should and shouldn't do at these cars so they will be reliable. Subarus are very finicky cars and they just require certain type of Maintenance not everybody is willing to do. It's a completely different type of design that requires good maintenance. I don't know everything nor am I trying to act like I know everything I just like to try to shed a little bit of light on the situation to maybe help with a situation a little bit. I am a Subaru specialist. I have done nothing but these cars for the last 20 years but I do work on other vehicles as well as we are a general maintenance business. I am sorry that you went through this and that you had a bad experience with them. Subaru or not I understand how frustrating it can be because it's one of the biggest Investments that I human being makes and their lifetime.

    This problem is just with the EJ251, 252; and 253 engines. Since then and with every other engine; they do not have any head gasket issues and the 3.6 and FB engines are pretty much indestructible. The problem came from the graphite single layer head gaskets. They permanently fixed it with the MLS (multi layer steel) gaskets.
